UPDATE, 10:34 AM, JANUARY 22: Paterno died Sunday, the AP reports.

A spokesperson for the Paterno family has denied a report by CBS that former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has died. CBS previously reported that the 85-year-old college-football legend had succumbed in his battle with lung cancer.

Earlier on Saturday, the family announced that Paterno's condition had taken a turn for the worse.

"Over the last few days Joe Paterno has experienced further health complications," family spokesman Dan McGinn told The Associated Press. "His doctors have now characterized his status as serious

    His subordinat­e as you call him was dismissed by Joe in 1999,, he had NO ties with Sandusky personally or profession­ally. and his flaw was he didn't bad mouth anyone, which in rights he could have, but that just shows the type of class he had..

    I feel bad that Paterno's life ended as it did. He lived and breathed football. He was likely a complete fish out of water when it came to handling a sex abuse allegation­. I think it is not uncommon for a very focused person to not know how to deal with other parts of life. One good thing that may come out of all of this trouble--p­erhaps others will be better informed.

    One thing I know for sure is that penn State Football as we knew it is dead. They won't get anymore blue chip players. Who would want to go there for at least the next 10 or 15 years? Only players who can't play at any other division one program will go there. After about 7 or 8 years there will be a call for them to drop out of the big ten and into division two. You will see. mark these words.

    sue him for what.. what exactly did he do,, he reported it and it fell on deaf ears.. the board should be sued, and don't forget Sandusky, seeing he's the one who owns this whole mess in the first place..

    Joe Pa was an amazing coach. I remember many years ago Joe showed my team the U how to really prepare for war. The U showed up in combat camouflage for the National Championsh­ip, while Joe's boys showed up in neck ties. When the game went to the field the battle was won by Penn State sending my boys home probably wishing they had acted more like kids trying to get a college education. Joe certainly had his team ready to give them a football education. This was Joe...Joe loved the game and should always be remembered as a man who loved to coach football..­.as for the rest, let God be the judge.

    Not really, he is likely guilty, but it hasn't been proven by a longshot.
