According to a recent study from the University of Southern California, Wall Street life may not be as great as it seems -- at least, when it comes to health
The study, to be published in the journal Administrative Science Quarterly, looked at two dozen young investment bankers who worked between 80 to 120 hours a week (going to work around 6 a.m. and leaving work around midnight, according to the Wall Street Journal).
The researchers found that as time went on they had increased risks of health problems like alcoholism, arthritis and Crohn's disease.
Alden Cass, a clinical psychologist based in New York, told the Wall Street Journal that bankers have an increased risk of mental health issues and burnout because their jobs can be so volatile.

My late Uncle Cyrus was a quality control worker at a munitions factory during the Second World War. We still have his rubber mallet mounted on a mahogany plank above the fireplace, along with the framed condolence note from the factory owner. The owner stated, “It is unlikely that a man of Cyrus Jonz’ caliber will pass this way again.”
Love the sarcasm. It drips from your lips like honey
Wow How is it I’m not depressed ? Ive cared for my 88 yr old mother for 28 years, giving up a lot of things, like marriage, kids, healthy relationships, happiness. Successful jobs. After going thru this story i should be eating the end of a gun but im not. I guess im too dumb for my own good.
Spear catcher.
Being a doctor of any kind is stressful, but especially in the health care field. And college should be free. It says a lot about someone when they do not value health care or education.
I was raised in a ballet school, and I think the artificial posture which such dancers acquire make us look exotic, so we attract weird men and not good men. I divorced husband #1 but I was with husband #2 for 40 years until his death. Also, ballet dancers develop excellent heart and lung health, which I’ve retained to this day, but we do damage to our hips, knees, ankles, and feet by the artificial turn-out. Those who are perfectly suited physically to dance do better (as in Russia where they choose dancers according to physique, not according to ability to pay for lessons). I loved dance and I’m not sorry I did it.
How on earth is she an idiot? Let me guess, you rot your lungs with smoke too.
Seems like smoking should be banned inside everywhere because it is nasty and harms others.
if you realy want to know. $2,500.00 a week plus expences.but that includes working in the I.B room. when needed. its a hard job to do..you see things that would make a billy goat puke.why are you asking .would you like to be a body taker?
Unemployment is hard on my back.
Laying around for the last 2yrs collecting a fat paycheck has gotten me out of shape.
As soon as I can get free college for life from my government I will then go to college and make something of myself.
Maybe become a Doctor or Astonaught.
Something that is not stressfull though!
How much money to indertakers make?
I had no idea that much money was to be made tending bar.
I find it hard to believe that your brain was mush after a nights work though.
For dancers. They implied ballerinas with the photo, but I imagine people taking the survey who answered that their occupation was dancer many times was a stripper.
800 per week at a "Good joint"?
Try 1800.
I just got finished with a 9 month long position as a bartender in one of the top 50 restaurants in the Northeast prior to moving out to California. My weekly take home after taxes (including cash tips) was closer to 2,100 for a 40-48 hour work week.
Simultaneously you strike the reasons why I’m pursuing a college degree rather than bartending my way into serious back and psychological issues. The job is physically demanding and mentally demanding. I couldn’t even tell you how bad my critical thinking and abstract thinking were around 4 a.m. after I cleaned the bar up. No alcohol involved, but I still frequented a cab ride home because I didn’t trust myself behind the wheel while massive migraines made my head feel like a drum circle.
Well, he could become a mason. He’ll get to get in top physical shape…but he’ll be inhaling fiberglass, micronized wood chips, and dust…
Essentially, my dear Felicia, you are an id1ot.
Seriously? Just think about it. Its not complicated at all. Goes right hand in hand with the reason why actors rarely marry and those who do rarely hold onto the unions.
Dancers…
Bartenders…
Sailors…
I think that the last one of the bunch should REALLY clarify the point.
I bet its the correlation between tightly bound hair and poor decision making…!
hahahahaha one time i was driving over the brooklyn bridge at three am in the rain and the body i was transporting sat up and the kid that was with me jumped out of the van and ran like the devil was chasing him lol. i caught up with him and he pissed his pants . i told him it was a normal thing …he quit right there and took a cab home. hahahahaha. thats why i like working alone. with soft music and a cigar. whos going to complain about the smoke ..not the body hahahahahaha
Anyone care to speculate why dancers have the highest divorce rate?
Seems like he should get abother job if this bothers him.
My husband is a poker dealer at a casino…. constantly having to breath in second hand smoke =/
grave stuff MFL . . . grave stuff!
Cheating and stealing is not good for your health. I am not surprised.
That said, Investment bankers have the highest integrity.
Who doesn’t love an investment banker?
They contribute a lot to society!
We owe them a huge debt of gratitude . . . with interest!

I have three of them that I use for far longer than recommended daily, but feeling stronger by the day since I started using them. My knees no longer ache and I can now negotiate stairs without pain!
I worked as a waitress and bartender double shifts when my children were little for 7 years and now have permanent damage to my neck from carrying those heavy trays of food on my shoulder as well as bone spurs in my feet and arthritis in my toes and hands. Now unemployed at 55 and often wish that my body would "allow" me to go back to waiting or bartending just to have an income. The money can be so good if you work in a good restaurant. I have little empathy for young 20 and 30 year old people unemployed as they can beat on the restaurants doors and get a job waiting table and possibly make up to 800. per week if a good joint. It’s us oldsters that are having problems getting work and some of us worked are arses off when we were younger to the point we are crippled.
im an undertaker grate job no layoffs but im on call 24/7 but i dont mind. i get a nice van to drive and its quiet ..some soft music a cigar and a body.who could ask for more.?
As a teacher, I personally like the fact that I am up and walking all day instead of standing. The health issues associated with my job are lack of breaks, a 15 minute on-duty lunch, sick kids, and long hours.

My divorce actually improved my health…
Coal miner! The guy at the board has it made compared to a mile down under.
I don’t know why divorce is considered a "health issue."
