On the face, it seemed like a reasonable tactic: capitalize on anti-health care reform sentiment by pursuing lawsuits to overturn the polarizing health care overhaul that had just become law. But what may have on the surface appeared sound, health policy and politics experts say, could be a political blunder, tapping into a general American distaste for lawsuits. A series of recent polls suggest that even in states which generally oppose health care reform, the repeal lawsuits are unpopular, considered a “bad idea” by most and are apt to make a sizeable group of voters, particularly independents, less likely to support an attorney general running for office.
