While the aging of the brain in inevitable, the tools you need to keep your brain healthy later in life may be already be right under your nose. Recently, a slew of research has been released, all focusing on the human brain and cognitive decline, revealing a variety of steps we can take to keep the brain strong.
The next time you nag your children or grandchildren to turn off that pesky video game and resume their homework, pick up the controller as they stomp back into the kitchen. TIME reports that a new study shows the Nintendo game Brain Age can actually improve cognitive function.
The study's players showed improvements in processing speed and executive function, which involves organization and memory of details. On the downside, there was no shown benefit in other cognitive areas such as attention. Furthermore,

I think aging isn’t the problem. If you read the ohter hp story about how people run out of money and that is the problem!

Meanwhile, our income is turning to mush. Did you know that the per person Medicare Part B insurance premium will increase from the present monthly fee of $96.40, rising to: $104.20 in 2012; $120.20 in 2013; And $247.00 in 2014? These provisions are incorporated into the Obamacare legislation, purposely delayed in an attempt to hide the facts from seniors prior to the 2012 election .
All of this from voting as a liberal?
Good point about the Omega 3 fatty acids, but try to avoid processed forms of this important nutrient. Get it fresh and in your food instead of in a pill or capsule.
Eating healthy foods that are fresh, and not processed is the best way to stay healthy but with prices increasing on everything this is not always possible. Cereals and grains if you can afford them are our best bet against certain forms of cancer, if you can afford them.
What worries me most is how to stretch a diminishing dollar and increasing cost of government.
“What you permit, you promote.”

Send this to all seniors that you know, so they will know who’s throwing them under the bus.
In the mean time, Congress, the Senate and the President will have had two pay raises !!!
REMEMBER THIS IN NOVEMBER 2012 and VOTE ACCORDINGLY
I’ 69, read a lot, walk about 1 1/2 miles a day, and practice memorizing everyday things like shopping lists. Instead of writing it down I keep repeating and adding and it gets easier.
Yea it’s important to keep your mind active … and…. forgot what I was going to say.
I am 86 1/2 and find my biggest challenge is trying to understand the foreign speaking agents of companies one contacts on line? I think I have good hearing but will have it tested in a week or so just to .make sure I am not the problem. The games using touch pads are hard for me because I am dislectic and have a tendency to reverse letters or numbers if I am not careful. This does not create a problem while driving because I have good periphical vision, and I drive defensively! No tickets and no accidents in 60 years and I drive the speed-limit or 5 miles over (a state trooper told me it was safe to do that). I have lived in 6 different states, driven cross country after my husband gave up driving and, more importantly I think, showing courtesy for other drivers. So, in a nutshell, that is how I have dealt with the aging process!! ps. using the computer has been a the best activity to keep the brain active.
I’d like to point out that there are vegetarian sources of Omega 3 fatty acids, like flax and hemp seeds. I just completed a very unscientific brain enhancement experiment: http://daisybrain.wordpress.com/2012/01/07/daisy-brain-experiment-intro/
Well now that I have my medical excuse let me sign out of HP and get back to my AgeofConan.
I am fifty one and I have found that doing the Wii game Dance Dance Revolution very challenging both for my brain and my cardiovascular system.
