Why is nutrition important?

The answer goes far beyond "You are what you eat."

Nutrition is important because it fuels your body and gives you chemical building blocks like amino acids for making protein and calcium and magnesium for building bones and teeth. It provides fatty acids for building the membranes of cells and their components.

Vitamins, Minerals and Enzymes

The vitamins and minerals nutrition provides act as co-factors for the enzymes that run almost everything that happens in your body. These important effects of nutrition have been the focus of scientific research for more than a hundred years.

Scientists have concluded that vitamins, minerals, amino acids and essential fatty acids are essential nutrients and that carbohydrates are the most efficient sources of fuel.

Good article. I avoid all types of food with high fructose corn syrup. I just found an all-natural syrup with any high fructose corn syrup. It is made from the Henderson Family farm in Michigan, but they only have during the maple harvest. The cherry juice has helped me with my gout. I drink the Fruit Advantage cherry juice. I also eat allot of blueberries when I can get them, but the frozen ones are really good to.

Often the nutrition of frozen fruits and vegetables is better than fresh fruits and vegetables — and much, much cheaper.

Frozen in time so to speak.

I forgot I also eat 6 walnut halves everyday plus use lots of spices.
Also eat eggs now and then.

What do you eat on a daily basis?

I eat fruit, vegetables, yogurt, cottage cheese , nonfat dry milk, lean meat ,
one slice of cracked wheat sour dough bread with honey,
green tea sweetened with Stevia .
    In the morning
I need my small cup of hot chocolate. It has sugar, but I don’t beat myself up about that.
I drink two diet cokes a day. I am not giving them up!

How does it impact how you feel?

I feel pretty good for an old gal. I’ll be 64 next month.
I don’t feel so great about the cost and quality of produce.
Sometimes those bing cherries and grapes can look so good and yet be sour or tasteless!

I’m weaning myself off of my favorite neuro-toxin, replacing it in my oatmeal with organic honey/maple syrup along with a tad of virgin coconut oil.

Living in Michigan’s northwest, we have good sources for both cherry concentrate and dried cherries, so there is always something that has cherry in it, which helps as Himself has gout and I have arthritis in my spine.

Speaking of arthritis, I’ve heard that carbonated beverages of any kind can leach calcium from bone. I was drinking way too much diet cola anyway–upwards of 2 litre’s a day or more–so cutting back wasn’t a bad idea. But I decided to go cold turkey (as soon as the last case is gone) because the pain in my hip and back just isn’t worth the cola joy.
