Summer vacations are a time for rest and relaxation and usually include those nice lazy days, gourmet meals, cocktails and my personal favorite ... SWEETS!
Whether you’re packing for a road trip BBQ, or a cruise ship, don't let your vacation knock your eating habits off guard.
Just think maintenance.
If you’re on a weight loss program or trying to maintain what you worked so hard for at the gym, to show off your hard work on your vacation, it’s a good idea to shift to a "weight maintenance goal" at that time.

Here are a few pointers to help you plan ahead:
Cruises - Scan the buffet line before picking up a plate. Before selecting anything, decide which one or two items you want to “splurge” on and then take a small portion of each. Cruise ships often offer an abundance of food and buffet options (like heaven for us people that love to eat) that can make it easy to overeat. If you can’t resist the urge to go back for seconds, refill your plate with healthier, low-calorie choices like vegetables, fresh fruit or lean meats.
Fill the rest of your plate with nutritious foods like fresh vegetables, salad with low-fat dressing, lean meats or whole grains.
Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’ll be in the sun.
DON'T FORGET to exercise. Most cruise ships offer activities, so take advantage of rock climbing, swimming, gym, or water aerobics.
