Dubai: Diet sodas could make you fat, warn health experts following reports of another case of weight gain and fatigue.
Dubai resident Geordie B., a 33-year-old working professional, had complained of abdominal weight gain, mood swings and chronic fatigue at a Dubai clinic. Her medical history revealed that she drank 8-10 diet cokes per day, and has been doing this for the past 10 years.
The attending doctor, Isabella Tausz, specialist in Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Anti Ageing Medicine and Hormone Restoration, at the Eternity Medicine Institute, Dubai, told Gulf News that the patient's blood test revealed deficiency in Vitamins D and B12, protein and serotonin, as well as a hormonal imbalance.
Dr Tausz said her patient is one of several cases who has an unhealthy lifestyle and bad diet, including consumption of diet beverages. Speaking about the adverse effects of such beverages, she said diet soda as a wise alternative to regular soda is a misconception.

Common sense is not so common.
Actually eating smaller meals throughout the day is better. The other thing is the quality of the food that one eats counts for quite a bit. For example, chips vs. a piece of mozzarella.
From the Academy of "DUH!" medical research come another huge news flash: eating rocks causes constipation!
good job!
I think that’s awesome. And I bet by drinking water when you THINK you’re hungry, you are more in tune with your REAL hunger signals and you eat when you’re hungry (and for no other reason!)
I’ve been experimenting with this myself. I’m a bit of a food addict, sweets in particular, but i’ve been skipping meals every other day and drinking water instead. I no longer need to worry about what to eat half the time and the water keeps me hydrated and healthy. And i dont even get hungry until my normal eating time — i guess my body has adapted.
the final realization i had was that we just don’t need to eat all day like people suggest. The body is just fine and as long as you eat SOMETHING every once in a while and not go into a fasted state for more than 48 hours, your body will not go into ‘starvation mode’ which seems to be a buzzword for people who don’t know what they’re talking about.
The problem with water and weight loss is that people think that they can lose weight by JUST drinking water. gotta change that diet.
I love that stuff, but only the lemon kind or the plain kind.
Dont like the glass bottles either, but they are healthier than the plastic.
Liquid calories count too? Huh? ALL calories count. This post is so dumb and so redundant in that everyone knows all calories count and this has been posted a million times here and elsewhere.
Skipping a meal every once in a while is also good.
Good for the blood pressure, the cholesterol levels, insulin levels as well as weight.
Give your body a break!
I don’t think our bodies were meant to be eating every few hours, every day, for the rest of our lives. That’s constant eating.
If people had to hunt their food before they ate, they went out, exerted energy and got it. They ate it. Then their bodies digested the food and went without until the next successful kill. In between times, they ate real food, which is good for the body anyway.
Simply put, we eat too much. Not to mention we in this day in age are conditioned to think excess ANYTHING is the norm. Advertising tricks us into buying food we don’t need plus it’s addictive at that.
Water is great, but the current state of the american diet won’t do anything to help an obese person lose weight if they’re eating everything out of a bag or box.
Doesn’t this story come out every year?
A better question is:
Isn’t this common sense?
I would never have guessed. Next in the news: water is not only good for you, it’s wet, too!
Now, if they came out with scientific proof for something I read years ago about even diet sodas causing weight gain because your body does something in response to the sweet taste, I’d be more impressed.
Drink water for these RAW MILK CUSTOMERS!
OBAMA FDA OUT OF CONTROL!
Feds succeed in destroying entire business of Amish raw milk farmer
Just a few months later on April 20, 2010, the FDA again sent its Nazi-sympathizing thugs back to Rainbow Acres Farm, this time at 4:30 a.m. while Allgyer was still asleep, to conduct another raid. Violating the provisions of their so-called warrant, which specified that any inspection must be conducted during "reasonable times during ordinary business hours," the agents proceeded to once again ransack the farm in search of evidence to back their claims that Allgyer was engaged in illegal interstate commerce (http://www.naturalnews.com/029322_raw_milk_Amish.html).
Following this second sting, the FDA claims to have discovered the evidence it needed, and immediately sent Allgyer a warning letter notifying him that he was in violation of interstate commerce laws, according to their view (http://www.farmtoconsumer.org/aa/aa-26april2010.htm). The agency also filed a civil complaint against Allgyer around the same time.
With hundreds of happy and satisfied out-of-state customers that relied on him for fresh supplies of raw milk, Allgyer attempted to satisfy the FDA’s demands by restructuring his farm’s distribution process into private cow share agreements with customers.to directly purchase shares in the cows from which they get milk, personally own them, and they are not subject to FDA jurisdiction.

Soda is not the problem. The bigger problem is the food. If you cannot lose weight it is due to food chemical that break the good insulin in the gut. This causes the body to hold fat and it causes type 2 diabetes. Steroids’ are in the beef. Growth "factors" are now in the Milk. These are all dangerous things that the government has allowed in the food. Soda / Club water >>>
Try a soda stream at home. Problem solved.
Finding samples in the real world for real families is quite easy using "Get Official Samples" site, Remember, it’s not how much you save, but how little you spend.
Try using selzer water and fruit juice.
Title should read Swapping water for soda.
In other words you are replacing the soda with the water.
Sloppy, sloppy.
I had cut down to 12 oz of Coke Zero at dinner time.I could drink soda all day but don’t dare.I quit the regular sodas a few years ago and only drink diet sodas.I admit when eating out and where you can fill up your own glass of soda,I mix half reg Coke and half Diet Coke. This week I have not had any Coke Zero and have been drinking flavored Perrier water. The thing I need is the fizz and after drinking half a big bottle of Perrier, the fizz is gone the next day. Most grocery stores don’t carry the bigger plastic bottles nor the smaller ones.
I don’t know where you live but if you live near a Smart & Final you can find little bottles!
Seriously? They had to do an entire study on this? Obviously, cutting out considerable calories equals less overall caloric consumption.
Still though, if I’m in the mood for soda (which I only drink at restaurants), nothing else is going to satisfy that craving.
I adore lime flavored Perrier water but hate buying the big glass bottles of it.Not many stores carry the new large plastic bottles either. The large plastic bottles only are in plain or lemon-lime.
Wait, this is new news??!! This is common sense, although... some people actually really don’t know this! If you still need the FIZZY but wanna ditch the soda… drink flavored seltzer water!
Or ZEVIA!

Yeah! Really; exactly! Can you believe it?
Somebody’s done a study that shows that consuming fewer calories results in weight loss? Gee, hasn’t this already been discovered somewhere? These graduate students must really be getting desperate to publish.
Well duhhhhh, you don’t think that drinking 14 teaspoons of sugar desolved in carbonated water will adversely affect your health ??
Well you are most likely younger than me and don’t have medical issues.I am in fairly good shape but unfortunately inherited my Father’s little bladder.I,like my late Mother HATE the taste of tap water.Only in a few cities does it taste good. When you get to a certain age, over 50 the body fights anything you try.I have been drinking lime flavored Perrier water which I do like but its a pain buying the bottles, esp the glass ones. Some stores do have the plastic bottles.Congrats on your 48 lb weight loss.If I could only get 30 lbs/ 40lbs off!!!!! As least I walk each day, well most days.
Never drink that stuff. Not good for the body ect.
Funny, it really helped me losing a lot of weight. Along with a diet of course, but I found drinking a big glass of water when you’re actually looking for food helps to appease the stomach, you can feel the conforting sensation. So I found. I shed 48 pounds. Still helps me keep my weight.
I gave up drinking sweetened beverages (except for rare occasions) years ago, and I’ve found it much easier to maintain my weight.
Drinking more water hasn’t really helped me weight wise but it seems to help toning up my muscles more.
Duh
